Plan

A solo summit. The drive from Ankara was shared with club mates from DOST who had an activity of their own on the same days; from the Sokullupınar camp our routes parted.

Approach

Left Ankara at noon on Saturday; food and supplies in Niğde; up to the Sokullupınar camp in the evening. A scout group was camping there, so the activity was reported to the gendarmerie. Tents up, early night.

Ascent

  • 05:00 up, breakfast. 05:50 on the move from Sokullupınar.
  • About 40 minutes of fast walking to the Karayalak camp, no stop.
  • From Karayalak straight into the climb to the pass known as Kapı. Clear sky, little wind.
  • 11:11 near the Çelikbuyduran camp.
  • 12:26 on the summit. 12:34 leaving it.
  • 13:40 on the descent, with a dog that joined on the way down; by then hungry and out of water.

Notes

  • Check the weather for the area before the activity.
  • Little water between Sokullupınar and Karayalak: plan the stock.
  • Before the activity, report your name, national ID number, phone number and the activity’s details to the gendarmerie of the area. It is obligatory, and skipping it can mean an administrative fine.
  • People on the way, villagers and other groups, make the day safer and better. On the drive in we pushed a stalled car back to life for an elderly man from the village.
